🎯 How to differentiate between active and passive marketing channels in Oplead?
You can now label your marketing channels as "Active" or "Passive" to improve your analytics and commercial performance tracking.
This new setting is available in your marketing channel configuration and is also visible in exports and performance dashboards.
🧐 What is an "active" vs "passive" marketing channel?
-
Active channel: a sales rep plays a direct role in acquiring the lead (e.g., prospecting, networking, active referrals).
-
Passive channel: the lead comes in "on its own," with no direct salesperson involvement (e.g., website, trade show, direct mail).
👉 This distinction is often used to tailor sales compensation plans or better analyze conversion performance by channel type.
⚙️ Where can I set the channel category?
When you create or edit a marketing channel in Oplead (via Settings > Marketing Channels):
-
You’ll see a field labeled "Category" just below the channel name.
-
Use the dropdown menu to select:
-
Not specified
-
Active channel
-
Passive channel
-
-
Save your changes.
💡 For custom-created channels, the default category is "Not specified" — but you can update it anytime.
🧠 Which channels are labeled active or passive by default?
Oplead automatically assigns a category to suggested (pre-defined) channels:

📊 How can I use this info in my analytics?
The Active / Passive category can be used in:
- Lead exports (a dedicated column is added at the end of the file)
-
The Oplead API:
-
/v1/settings/marketing-channels
-
/v1/leads/{id}
-
This enables advanced segmentation, channel performance analysis, and alignment with your compensation or external BI tools.
A new performance management interface will be using these marketing channels soon in Oplead
✏️ Can I edit a channel’s category later?
Yes! You can update it anytime. Go to Settings > Marketing Channels, click the channel you want to edit, and update the "Category" field.
